Game-Changing Projects Currently Under Construction in the U.S.

Forklift and Heavy Equipment Businesses

Whether it’s a towering skyscraper or a quiet neighborhood road, feats of modern engineering are all around us. But what groundbreaking projects are underway in the United States right now? While incredible proposals are pitched daily, bringing them to life requires more than vision – it demands strategic planning. Here are some of the most exciting projects currently under construction.

High-Speed Rail in California and Texas

The U.S. has two high-speed rail projects in progress: the $100-billion California High-Speed Rail and the $36-billion Texas High-Speed Rail initiative.

The California project aims to connect San Diego, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Jose, and San Francisco with trains capable of reaching speeds up to 220 miles per hour. With stops in major cities and a potential Desert Xpress route to Las Vegas, this project proposes a seamless “one-seat” journey from Los Angeles to San Francisco in just two hours and 40 minutes, covering about 380 miles.

The Texas High-Speed Rail project is designed to link Dallas and Houston with trains reaching speeds of 205 miles per hour, cutting down the 240-mile journey to just over an hour—drastically faster than the current four-hour drive.

While the Texas project is anticipated to finish by 2030, California’s rail system may be ready as early as 2030, though 2033 is more likely. Both projects will involve extensive infrastructure, including rail lines, stations, and maintenance facilities.

Hudson Yards – New York City

One of the largest private real estate developments in U.S. history, the $25-billion Hudson Yards project covers 28 acres of residential, commercial, and retail space in New York City. In addition to 30 Hudson Yards, one of the city’s tallest skyscrapers, the project includes high-rise buildings and public areas like parks and plazas. Built over a rail yard, Hudson Yards features a subway stop on the IRT Flushing Line.

Construction began in 2012, with phase one completed in 2019 and phase two expected to open by 2030.

Sound Transit 3 – Seattle, Washington

Sound Transit 3 is a $53.8-billion initiative aimed at expanding Seattle’s light rail network by 62 miles. This ambitious project will extend the Link light rail system to the suburbs of Tacoma, Federal Way, Everett, and Issaquah, and the Seattle neighborhoods of Ballard and West Seattle.

The project also includes 37 new stations, a Sounder commuter rail extension to DuPont, and added bus rapid transit lines. Opening in phases, the first projects are scheduled to debut in 2024, with major extensions beginning construction in the late 2020s.
